The second Utah Leadership Convening was held this past Saturday, August 19th at the Salt Lake Community College South Campus. We had 80 people registered and over 60 people in attendance!
We heard from Ze Min Xiao, President and CEO of the Center for Economic Opportunity and Belonging, on building belonging in schools. In the belonging session, participants identified how to build belonging. The Raise Up Utah Coalition will be working on a strategies on how to build belonging based off feedback from participants.
The High School in Glendale session was facilitated by Amani Thomas and Tommy Dierkes from TNTP along with Jenny Mayer-Glenn from University Neighborhood Partners. In this session, participants identified people and organizations who could support this work and learned how to create a testimonial. Participants from this session are encouraged to attend the Glendale Community Council meeting on September 20th at 7PM. This community council meeting will be an opportunity to voice opinions to the school board leadership who will be in attendance. People planning to attend the Glendale Community Council meeting are encouraged to attend the pre meeting on September 12th at 5:30PM-7PM at the Glendale Library.
Lia Baez, from the Promise Partnership, closed us out with an advocacy training. This training included how to talk to your state legislators and senators, how the legislative process works, and how to identify community needs.
We hope to continue building momentum and community power focused on these topics. Be on the lookout for more information and events by the Raise Up Utah Coalition. Si se puede! Yes we can!
